Prof. Dr. Sühan Ayhan was born in Ankara in 1969. In 1986, he graduated from Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. Between the years 1992-1998; he completed his training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  

Between 1998 and 1999, he was assigned as a Research Fellow in experimental microsurgery for one year in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. In 2000, he was appointed as lecturer in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. He became Assistant Professor at the same university in 2001. He worked as a clinical fellow in the field of “Perforator flaps and breast reconstruction" in Plastic Surgery Clinic of Gent University in Belgium for 3 months in 2002 with Stephen S. Kroll Fund. In 2004, he won the title of Associate Professor. He was appointed as Professor in April 2010. He worked as Head of the Department of Surgery of the Hand between 2007 and 2011 and Deputy of Chief Coordinator in Coordinators Committee between 2004 and 2012. At the same time, between the years of 2004-2010; he worked as the Chairman of the Clinical Skills Training, which was within the Department of Medical Education in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. He is still working in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine and he was also working as a private doctor since 2010.

Dr.Ayhan had total 105 scientific articles including 68 international and 37 domestic articles, more than 300 citations to these articles, 7 book chapter writing, 1 book chapter translation and 2 book translations. Dr. Ayhan is also a member of national societies such as Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, Turkish Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Turkish Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Wound Management Society of Turkey and international societies such as European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (IPRAS), Pyrenean Club of Plastic Surgeons. Dr.Ayhan is a member of the Board of Directors of Turkish Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons since 2006. Dr. Ayhan is currently the President of Turkish Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and Vice-President of the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons during 2014-2016.

His clinical interests are; aesthetic surgery, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, reconstructive surgery after cancer and trauma and microsurgery. His academic interests are; medical education, clinical skills training, microsurgical training.
